Regent cancels some PG cruise for sept 08

We just found out that Regent has cancelled the 7 day itineraries for sept 2008 departing Sept 6th and Sept 13th; replacing them with a 14 day itinerary leaving Sept 6th.

 

We were booked on one of these 7 day cruises but aren't interested in taking the 14 day itinerary.

 

we are very dissapointed to have to change our plans as the timing was great for us. but we will try to figure out another 7 day that will work for us.

 

Is this common practice for cruises to get cancelled? we've only been on a few cruises before, and always thought that you were better off booking as far in advance as you could.

 

We were offered to either cancel with no penalty, or receive a reduction towards a future booking. The credit amount felt a little nominal in light of our having to change our vacation plans. Although every circumstance is different, we know a lot of experienced cruisers post to this board and are wondering if there is a general guideline of what to expect if the cruiseline cancels.

Ask *nicely* for a cabin upgrade, in addition to your discount. Sometimes it happens :)

We were booked on that one too... all 8 of us! It was pretty hard to switch gears because no one could do a 14 day trip and some were afraid of all that travel time in open water on the 14 day cruise. So we switched to the Sept 20 sailing. We lost the cabins we wanted, but at least we are going. Just wish I could find a forum for that cruise. Anyone know if there is one?
