We were on Explorer II in Jan. of 06 - it was our most exciting cruise. Having a long zoom lens with image stabilization enabled me to get wonderful bird, whale and penguin shots. I used a Canon S 2 digital camera with a 12X optical zoom and usually had it set on automatic so I didn't have to concentrate on the details. Canon has improved that model with updates since I bought mine - they probably have an S 4 or S 5 by now. I wore glove liners to sort of keep my hands from freezing. On land it wasn't too bad but on the ship when it was windy - and it was windy a lot - my hands still got cold. Cruise Critic has a photo forum where you probably can get specifics on settings etc. if you post your question there. Have a great cruise!
