We just returned from a 7 day cruise on the Carnival Triumph and had a balcony cabin for the first time. We opened the door first thing in the morning and had our morning coffee there. The views coming into port and leaving were spectacular. After a day ashore, or at the end of a day lying in the sun, we retreated to our cabin balcony. It was never windy , and was very peaceful. We had a late dinner, so it was a nice place to go as the sun went down and it grew chilly and windy on the sun decks until dinner time. We would get a couple bottles of beer and put them on ice in our cabin since there are no waiters on balconies :)

We are not into big crowds and too much noise and chaos, so it was a quiet place all of our own

We also have cruised all different ways. there was a time when this wasn't even an option. We've had balconies twice, and for Alaska we will have one. Our daughter's family will be across the hall in an inside cabin, we will have the balcony with her oldest child. That way, we all get to have a balcony, I'm sure the kids will love it, especially wehn we go to Glacier Bay. We've cruised Alaska before, on the old Regency cruise line, and had a large window.

HI! We've had 4 kinds of cabins & prefer a balcony; however, on the Asian cruise we've booked the balcony was DOUBLE the price of the inside which brings up the question. Why such a difference ~ sometimes $600, sometimes over $2000.00 per person? We're back to an inside. I've also found when you have a balcony you don't go up on deck much, no need to. Oh well, the food etc are great no matter where you stay!:D
