Buddiebo Posted February 11, 2008 #1 Share Posted February 11, 2008 Which is best for someone who has never been there before. I am mostly interested in beautiful scenery, nice beaches, resorts and warm water. Thanks!
TravlGrl Posted February 11, 2008 #2 Share Posted February 11, 2008 I was in your same boat (no pun!) a year ago. I chose Eastern Caribbean for my first cruise and loved every bit of it! I now have both a W. Caribbean and a S. Caribbean cruise booked as well. Our E. Caribbean itinerary included San Juan, St. Thomas, St. Maarten, Antigua, and Bahamas. We are sun lovers, and the cruise and itinerary did not disappoint! So, I say pick one...then do the other itineraries at some point!
caribbeanchickie Posted February 11, 2008 #3 Share Posted February 11, 2008 We;ve done West, East and most recently in Jan. east again. I LOVE Half Moon Cay Bahamas and my DH loved St Maarten. We are planning a Southern for Oct/Nov but it has to include St. Maarten. :o I really want to go back to HMC but it's not on the Southern Itineray. As TravlGrl has said, book one and then go on the others at a later date. :p Chances are you will be hooked. As we are. :D HAVE FUN!
Jarhead235 Posted February 11, 2008 #4 Share Posted February 11, 2008 Guess someone needs to stand up for the Southern Caribbean! :D We've done it twice - 3 times if you count a portion of our Panama Canal cruise. We absolutely LOVE it. Fantastic islands, beaches, people, etc. Incredible snorkeling. Favorite islands so far? Have to include Aruba, St. Kitts, Curacao, Bonaire, and St. Thomas/St. John. Ignore the others. Go SOUTH! ;) Joe

Sheffie Posted February 11, 2008 #6 Share Posted February 11, 2008 The farther south you go, the warmer the water gets. The islands towards the west are not as lush as the islands to the east and southeast - some of those islands are quite arid. You get more beach days on a southern cruise vs. an eastern or western, which have more at-sea days. I'd pick the Southern to the east. No cruise is a bad cruise, though! roysue Posted February 12, 2008 #7 Share Posted February 12, 2008 Some things to consider also is the length of the cruise. If you want to do Southern Caribbean and only have 7 days, you may have added airline expense, flying into a more distant port, such as San Jaun. If you can do a 10 day, Southern is wonderful and you can still depart from the US mainland. You won't be disappointed, now matter which route you choose! TravlGrl Posted February 12, 2008 #8 Share Posted February 12, 2008 Just FYI...our Southern itinerary is only a 7-day and it departs from the mainland U.S. -- Ft. Lauderdale. It's on HAL.
Peace2U Posted February 12, 2008 #9 Share Posted February 12, 2008 Eastern Caribbean is very beautiful followed closely behind by western, and the southern Caribbean has alot for snorkelers.
