Phillip Naylor, the general manager for fleet operations with Carnival UK, officially met Minister of International Transport John Boyce and Minister of Tourism Richard Sealy on Friday. He said his company and Barbados had enjoyed a fruitful relationship over the years and he was looking forward to continuing such a mutually beneficial partnership. "We have a lot of confidence in Barbados and bringing the Ventura to homeport here for a full season of fly-cruising is evidence of that," said Naylor. The Carnival UK executive spoke on board the Oceana in the Bridgetown Port where he and executives of local agents Foster & Ince unveiled plans for homeporting of the new P&O megaship Ventura to cruise-tourism partners and Government officials. Naylor said Barbados had done a lot right to enhance itself as a significant player in the Caribbean homeporting business and praised the island for having a world-class airport, good infrastructure and a strong skills base. He further disclosed that his company and Barbados had grown together in the cruise business but the industry had become fiercely competitive with greater competition today among ports.
