Lunch in Nuremburg??

We will arrive at Nuremburg airport on May 3 at about 10:00 am to board Amadeus Symphony to cruise to Budapest. We understand we will be transported to the pier from the airport. Friends would like to to take a train from their home in Munich to join us for lunch before we leave later that day, I think about 5:00 pm. Can anyone advise us about the distance from the airport to the pier, and also from the pier to the center of the city, where restaurants are located? We have visited Nuremburg before, but on a cruise that left from Amsterdam, and took a bus tour of the area after docking. We aren't quite sure how to make arrangements to meet our friends. We would greatly appreciate any help. We visited a restaurant close to The Beautiful Fountain on our last trip - would that be a good location to plan to have lunch?

The airport is located North of the downtown area, the cruise ship landing at the Canal is located more or less South of the downtown area. The landing is not within a walking distance to the downtown area. You will definitely need a cab as there is no easy public transportation close to the landing. Check it with maps.google.com and type in "nuremberg, flughafenstrasse" and "nuremberg, hafenstrasse". The downtown area is more or less right in the middle of both destinations, airport and landing.

 

There is a subway (line U2) going to the airport. Check with www.vag.de . You can ride the subway to the central train station. The train station which might be a good meeting point. You can walk downtown from the train station or take the subway for another stop.

 

In the main downtown area next to the fountain and the big church there are a lot of typical restaurants.

 

You also have to consider that you might have to wait at the airport for your transport to the landing because they might want to fill up a bus.
