San Diego Best Western Bayside

The Best Western Bayside is close to the trolley (3 blocks) and the cruise terminal (4 blocks). The last time we stayed there (a year ago) we just walked from the hotel to the cruise terminal, rather than taking the hotel shuttle or a taxi. There are several good restaurants within walking distance. The BW Bayside is a 2 star hotel, so the rooms are comfortable, but not special.

Have stayed there 4 times now, once for a visit to the city and friends, last 3 times for pre-cruise stay. Will be there again next month.

As noted, nothing fancy, but clean and tidy, has airport and cruise ship shuttle service and a Stay, Cruise & Park program, which included leaving my car during the cruise, ride to and from the pier and a Continental Breakfast (Toast, Bagels, Juice, Coffee, Tea, Oatmeal, Scrambled Eggs and danishes) in the morning, just the right amount before heading to the ship.

The upper floors with Bay View Rooms are fun for watching your ship dock in the morning (make a pot of coffee (rooms have Coffee makers, Refrigerators, Microwave, Iron & Ironing board) and park yourself at the window to watch the ship come through the channel and into the dock, looks like it will run right up over Harbor Drive and take out the Holiday Inn ........ :D ), gets you rev'd up for getting down there and getting on board.

We will be staying at the BW Bayside pre cruise in 2 weeks and would appreciate any suggestions for a safe casual place to meet friends for dinner. Some place downtown or even closer to the hotel would be perfect. Thanks!

I would go to Anthony's. It is on Harbor Drive right next to the cruise ship pier. It is a San Diego institution, and they serve decent fish at reasonable prices with one of the best view's in San Diego. You could walk over from your hotel. Go a little early and put your name in as they don't take reservations and on a busy evening in summer or on a weekend you can wait an hour or more. If your friends live in the San Diego area, they will know Anthony's.

Another option if you don't want to do fish would be for the Karl Strauss Brewing Company on Columbia. Good food, not too expensive, a popular microbrewery.
