Blackrobe Posted April 29, 2004 #1 Share Posted April 29, 2004 Has anyone used a private guide in Santiago? Also, I am looking for a reasonable hotel in the 3* to 4* range. If this post looks familiar, it is as the last one disappeared! shmabbies Posted April 29, 2004 #2 Share Posted April 29, 2004 We don't like staying in big highrise hotels so we chose Hotel Orly in the Providencia section of Santiago and just loved it. It was small, quaint, very clean, had a nice lobby & little restaurant attached, and the included breakfast in the morning was in a little courtyard full of plants. The website is orlyhotel.com. Blackrobe Posted April 29, 2004 Author #3 Share Posted April 29, 2004 shmabbies - I was looking at the Orly but I heard that the area was very popular at night which made it very noisy. What was your experience? We would be staying on a Tuesday and Wednesday night if that makes a difference. shmabbies Posted April 30, 2004 #4 Share Posted April 30, 2004 Hi Blackrobe, Sorry for the delay, I wanted to get out my photo album to see what night of the week it was that we stayed at Hotel Orly. Turns out it was a Friday in February 2003. I don't recall there being any major noise. There WERE people on the streets eating in the cafes & so forth but it wasn't a drunken rabble or anything! We were in Rm. 44 that must have been on the 2nd floor or higher. It had a bedroom, a little sitting room with sofa & cafe type table & chairs, and a nice bathroom. I could e-mail you some photos if you'd like as long as you don't mind waiting until I find the CD they are on!
shoshona2 Posted May 1, 2004 #5 Share Posted May 1, 2004 We used Port compass for our south American tours in February. You need a minimum of four though.
Splinter Posted May 4, 2004 #6 Share Posted May 4, 2004 We used www.southstartours.com They did not have a minimum, but the per-person rate is higher for very small groups. Cheaper and better service than through the ship. john2003 Posted May 11, 2004 #7 Share Posted May 11, 2004 We also stayed at the Orly in 2001. We thought it was very good value. Don't recal noise was a problem.
