Coreopsis Posted April 22, 2008 #151 Share Posted April 22, 2008 So let's put the shoe on the other foot, "what if you are essentially confined to your cabin for a health and/or mobility reason (not contagious) and you have nowhere to go but your own balcony and that balcony is unusable because you are in a wheelchair/etc. Where do you go to have a smoke? Criminy . . . this is day what of hijacking these boards to complain about modified smoking policy? Is anyone else finding this almost humorous now? Pathetic? The sad part is that these boards have been particularly useful in providing information so that I can more fully enjoy my vacations. I've also met lovely people and developed some terrific friendships. But there is little redeeming quality in this silly, yet increasingly bitter argument. It is clearly not convincing the rest of us that you have been wronged. You've thrown the kitchen sink into the argument - and you've failed to convince the folks posting/reading. YOU have a choice. Let others handle themselves. YOU are aware of the policy and YOU can change cruise lines to a more smoker friendly line. Although, times are changing . . . http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2008/04/18/TRA6VF4N7.DTL Lets see if I can nip this particular argument: Balconies are not ash trays. They are indeed usable as intended: to allow passengers to enjoy fresh air and views. Balconies are accessible to passengers in wheelchairs. Wheelchairs, have wheels. They are mobile. The smoking areas are wheelchair accessible. In the example you provided: if the passenger isn't mobile (which defies any logic why they would be in a wheelchair, which by design allows mobility), how did they get on the ship in the first place? Host Walt Posted April 22, 2008 #152 Share Posted April 22, 2008 The rules, policies, enforcement and changes are all legitimate and appropriate topics for Cruise Critic. Frankly, if people would read the OP carefully and stay on topic without inserting gratuitous commentary, we'd all be happy. For future reference, please keep in mind that this forum is designed to be a place to discuss cruising, not the moral, legal, legislative, medical and/or social aspects of smoking. The topic, in this case, is a legitimate subject for open discussion. However as seems all too frequently to be the case, a discussion about smoking policies turned into a forum on smoking. There is an appropriate place for such discussions and it isn't Cruise Critic.
