DPMBDAYCRUISE Posted April 18, 2008 #2 Share Posted April 18, 2008 My husband and I did this tour last month. We enjoyed the train ride, it was very relaxing. You see a fair amount of the canal but it really just looks like a river and a lake. The scenery was nice, very green. We did make a stop at the Mira Floras lock and got to see a freighter going through the lock but that is the luck of the draw if you actually see one. When we got to the pacific side we stopped and were able to walk around and take pictures. In the distance you can see Panama City. It was a very interesting contrast from one coast to the other. We did enjoy this tour and I'm glad we spent the money to go.
bethbreck Posted April 23, 2008 #3 Share Posted April 23, 2008 I say forget the train. Nov. 07 we were on a full transit of the canal on HAL and decided to do the train. We were suppost to have a 2.5 hour round trip but turned into 6 hours. We got a buses at 11am to drive to the train; the train was over an hour late and we drove around on the bus killing time. The box lunch on the train was a tiny white roll with a single thin slice of turkey and cheese, no condiments Then on the bus coming back from Colon (nothing to see but ghetto there) we got caught in the evening traffic jam and was on the bus again for 3 hours. The bathroom door on the bus jammed with a lady inside and then was not available after that. We did get a partial credit from HAL on board but recommend you do the city tour not the train. You don't see anything much but jungle. Too much money for what you see.
