Erie Dave Posted April 5, 2004 #26 Share Posted April 5, 2004 One thing to look at when comparing prices, the newest ships always have the higher fare. The Mariner costs more than the Explorer because it is newer. Just as The Alaska cruise, the Serenade costs more than the Radiance--newer ships are priced higher--by a few hundred, so your comparison there is not an all things equal comparison. Our cruise this year, cost about the same as last years and the year before. No complaints here. 1999 Grandeur 2000 Dawn Princess 2001 Grandeur 2001 Majesty 2002 Radiance 2002 Radiance 2003 Conquest 2004 Adventure
Ocean Boy Posted April 6, 2004 #27 Share Posted April 6, 2004 Erie Dave.. I took your advice and decided you were correct I should not have compared an older to a new ship so... Explorer, Western Carib., Catagory I... April 26, 2003 ...$799.00/pp. Explorer, Western Carib., Catagory I... April 24, 2004... $1029.00/pp. This is a fairly significant increase when you pay for two cabins and four people. Of course, I am sure this years price would have been lower if they had added the JR surcharge to Explorer also.
Rare xpcdoojk Posted April 6, 2004 #28 Share Posted April 6, 2004 See previous reply, about the demand for cruising is up, hence the price is higher. Supply and demand, most basic. Still when comparing to a decade ago, the ships are better today and the prices are less in both actual dollars and way less in inflation indexed dollars. jc
