Traveling with minors

Recommended Posts

I will be taking my 10 yr old DD and her friend on a cruise shortly. Everyone has a passport and we are in the process of getting a permission to travel letter notorized by her mother.

But I'm worried. The child's parents are divorced and the mother has sole custody of the child. She did not need his signature to get the passport, but I'm wondering about the letter. Will I need a copy of her divorce papers that show she has custody, or will the passport and letter suffice?

The passport and a letter from mom don't mean dad has given permission. Take a copy of the papers showing mom has sole custody. You may never need it, but what if you do? Also, make sure you get mom to sign a letter authorizing you to obtain medical treatment for her daughter if that's necessary, and be sure you have her medical insurance information.
