Smile0808 Posted April 5, 2004 #1 Share Posted April 5, 2004 I know of someone who was on the Norwegian Dawn out of NY who sailed last weekend in March. She said that her husband never left the cabin because the ship rocked so much. Mostly up in the north. She also said that before entiring the dining areas they would hand u some type of hand washing antiseptic before you could enter.(I guess not to spread the stomach virus). IM sailing out of Bayonne late July, Is this how its going to be. Thanks........
TonyaJune Posted April 5, 2004 #2 Share Posted April 5, 2004 I had the same fear when we sailed out of New York to Canada last September. However, I was pleasantly surprised at how calm the water was for the duration of the cruise. Bonnie Voyager Posted April 5, 2004 #3 Share Posted April 5, 2004 No, it's not ALWAYS rough! I've sailed out of New York many times. It's usually fine when I've sailed in June and July, but it was very rough once in October. The Captain usually does a good job of finding the smoothest water he can. Sometimes that just isn't possible though. I think you will be fine in July. It just depends on the weather. If a large storm front has passed through just before your cruise, the waters can be a little rougher than normal. Good luck! You should be fine though! Bonnie Voyager...a.k.a. metfan747 Posted April 5, 2004 #4 Share Posted April 5, 2004 I've sailed out of NYC harbor 7 times in the past 3 year (between June and October) and never had a problem. And will be doing so 4 times this year. It all depends on the weather. A storm coming thru or just leaving will cause rough waters, but that's the same no matter where you sail from. Lizcourt Posted April 5, 2004 #5 Share Posted April 5, 2004 I've sailed out of NY three times and never had a problem -- and one of those time was on the Carnival Triumph, which brought us back to NY just as hurrican Floyd hit the city. If you're going out of Bayonne on the Voyager, I wouldn't worry -- the larger the ship, the less you feel the motion, IMHO. I must go down to the sea again. . . . Countdown to Voyager!
