Help with travel!

Recommended Posts

Hello,
First time cruiser, and we are trying to make flight arrangements for a Mexican Rivera (Vision) cruise later this year. It departs from the port of Los Angeles. Here are my questions:

a) Which airport? LAX?
b) How far is the airport from the shipport?
c) How should we get there?
d) What time should we arrive into the airport?

Thank you so much in advance!!!

LAX has the most connections. Long Beach is closer but fare probably will be higher. Lax is 20+ miles from the port and I would recommend Supershuttle. If you are coming from any distance, flights on Sunday wouldprobably get in around noon at the earliest. I would recommend going the day before and stay at a hotel in San Pedro, as we did last month.

long beach is the closest airport to fly into. i know you live in san jose and there is no direct connection from san jose to long beach on jet blue, but jet blue does fly from oakland to san jose. if you buy a red eye ticket on jet blue or a really early morning ticket, you can get great prices on the web. so if you are willing to drive up to oakland, jet blue to long beach might be your best bet.

if long beach doesn't work, then the other alternatives are lax or john wayne (in orange county). since you're departing on a sunday, lax is probably your best bet as there is no traffic (usually!) on sundays. as i am sure you know, southwest flies direct from san jose to lax. maybe you can wait until they have their $39 one way tickets and buy a rountrip then and get a good price for your ticket.

super shuttle is probably the cheapest and most convenient way to go. they will take you directly to the port of los angeles in san pedro. i don't know what the cost is, i am guessing $25-$35. other than that consider the RCI shuttle. it would be too expensive to take a cab the 25 miles down to the pier.

hope that helps. let me know if you need any more info. i have lived in the So Cal area my whole life, so i would be glad to do my best to help!

enjoy your first cruise! you'll love it...

Spershuttle was 433 for two to or from the port. $30 to San Pedro itself.

We usually drive down to L.A. - easier than waiting around the airport, and we're two hours north of you. We go down the night before to be sure of getting across the Grapevine Pass. Parking is easy at the terminal - we have rolling bags and park first rather than try to negotiate stopping at the dock itself. Whatever you do, have fun! Nancy
