Rental Car in Kona

Hi everyone! I was wondering if you had any recommendations on who to rent from in Kona? Is there anything special that I should know?

There is no pickup from the airport because it is too far away in heavy traffic, so you need to rent from an agency that is set up in the King Kamehameha hotel near the pier. The agent does not arrive at the rental desk until 8:00 am. You can rent from Dollar through the Hawaii Drive-O website. There is also another company available there, but I forget who they are. Try to get on the first non-tour tender, which leaves the ship around 7:45 am. You will pay more for rentals than at the other islands because there is not as much competition.

Thrifty and Dollar are at the King Kam. Those rental desks are for cruise pax only, which is nice, but they're small facilities with a limited number of cars. Book early because they often run out of cars well in advance. There's an Enterprise in Kona about a mile (I think) from the tender pier.
