Pre-Tipping

Recommended Posts

I think most people on this board feel that tipping at the end of the cruise is not an option at all considering the good time we just had.

My question is how many people pre-tip? What sort of things do you give them? I was thinking a small token but something they use and hopfully remeber you better by when you need something. I haven't decided yet if I'm going to try this on my next cruise but would love to hear how this has worked for people in the past.

Personally I think tipping at the end of the cruise as per tradition is just fine, but that's just me. I wouldn't tip the barber before a haircut in hopes of getting a good one, but after I see the result. The tip reflects the delight of the experience to me.

I plan on tipping the minimum at the beginning of the cruise, and letting them know there will be more at the end dependent on service. On our last cruise (not RCCL) we tipped double the suggested and also gave our servers/cabin steward/kids club counselors/etc. AT&T International pre-paid phone cards.

While I kept the tips on my sign and sail card last cruise, I tipped the extra on the last night. On previous cruises, I've only tipped extra to the room stewards/bus boys/waiters if the service was exceptional. But for the most part I like tipping at the end.
