PH8 Posted July 16, 2008 #27 Share Posted July 16, 2008 I got talking to the LA on my second RCI cruise and got a bridge tour from Captain Solem. I guess I just got lucky. Captain Solem is one who will allow bridge tours........I got one for my friends since they had never been (on the SS)........actually again for my inlaws on the SS...........then we got one when we cruised with him on the Jewel............he is my favorite captain............ He was my first. And now he's gone........he left RCCL...:( :( :( :( :( Im sooooooooooooooooooooooo sad...........
FL_Cruiser64 Posted July 16, 2008 #28 Share Posted July 16, 2008 Yeah Carol, but like in your pics under condition red it IS the Captain;) Oh BTW ya know that your pics will stirr the pot again with showing the stabilizers are not used:eek: I am more worried that they have those big signs to show where the stabilizer controls are.
6502programmer Posted July 17, 2008 #29 Share Posted July 17, 2008 Has anyone had any luck getting a bridge tour - just by asking for one? I did. I spoke with the concierge on Infinity last fall, and was told to write a personal note to the captain. It was my first cruise as well, but we were staying in concierge class (aft cabin FTW!). I don't know whether it was the eloquence of my note to the captain, the fact we were in CC, a little bit of luck, or a combination of all three. I can tell you that it was one of the true highlights of my cruise, being able to spend 45 minutes up on the bridge while sailing the inside passage. Captain Dimitrios has a GREAT sense of humor. joan_al Posted July 17, 2008 #30 Share Posted July 17, 2008 When I was in the navy we didn't need any stinking stabilizersI got used to the natural roll and pitch of the ship Stabs seem to me to give the ship a herky jerky motion, not natural at all. Agree matey, then you really had sea legs. Nothing like a good ole storm to teach you how to maneuver on a ship.
