We are scheduled for a 14 day Alaskan cruise starting on August 17. My understanding it is actually two 7 day cruises back to back. What happens after the first 7 day cruise as the ship is being prepped for the second 7 day cruise. Do we still have access to our cabins and all the other ship facilities, etc.

Yes you do.

Until recently people were unable to book this cruise as a 14 day cruise.

We always had to book them as a 14 day cruise.

Keeping that in mind, I have no idea if you will be issed new ID cards at the end of the 7 day cruise for the next 7 days. WE got new ones being as we had to book them indepently.

You will receive a letter the evening before you get to Seward. This letter will give you any information that they feel you should know. You should also be given the dining hours for the next morning. If it isn't in the letter, then the breakfast times will be on your cruise log.

Breakfast in Seward is always early as the train and buses for Anchorage also leave early. On the cruises that we were on breakfast was over by 8 AM. That gave the crew time to clean the Lido and dining room and get ready for the next passengers.

We were always fortunate to have our cabin stewart change our sheets the day before we got to Seward. That way all he had to do was make our bed, clean up the bathroom and fix the ice bucket. That way he could do a thorough job on the other cabins.

Usually around 10 AM there should be a bus provided by HAL to take people into town.

Lunch will begin at 11:30 just like on a regular day.

On some ships the gym is closed as they need to clean it and some ships like to get ready for a spa tour in the afternoon.

We were on the Veendam for 7 days. We did not get new cards. Our original cards indicated that this was a 14 day cruise. We did have to leave the ship in Seward, but that is because we had Noro virus on board and they had a special team come on in Seward to clean. HAL gave us a 9-hour Kenai Fjords boat excursion to get us off the ship. Although we had planned a relaxing day in Seward and on the ship, the boat excursion was amazing.
