rkacruiser Posted July 24, 2008 #3 Share Posted July 24, 2008 It depends upon the route taken from Da Nang to Hue. Over the mountains, which is a truly beautiful route, it will take 3 hours, including a rest stop en route. If one is able to take a short cut through a very long tunnel (it took my tour bus 8 full minutes to traverse its length), the time is a bit less, probably around 2 and one-half hours. Going one way and returning the other provided some interesting and different scenery. Was it a long day? Yes, you bet! But, it was an excellent sightseeing experience and one that I really enjoyed. This trip is one of the genuine highlights I experienced during my 2008 Grand World Voyage aboard the Amsterdam.
zlato Posted July 24, 2008 #4 Share Posted July 24, 2008 Just returned from Viet Nam. I agree that the 3 hour drive is a must; i.e., beautiful, if not spectacular scenery. You will miss some of the best views if you take the tunnel, and the highway does have cement and metal guard rail if you have some concerns about heights. NCCruzQueen Posted July 24, 2008 #6 Share Posted July 24, 2008 It's been 14 years since I took the excursion from Da Nang to Hue and I still remember the beauty of the countryside.
