Johnny Rockets was pretty darn empty!

birdyhunter - I read on another thread someone called RCI and found out the "test" was being extended to any ship that had a JR. Since I haven't received actual confirmation of my own, I treat this information as only a rumor. However, it falls into line considering the first two weeks were apparently so successful for RCI that they decided to extend the time frame. We'll simply have to wait and see if it truly catches hold on a permanent basis.

BTW, I love your avatar. Haven't seen Alfred's pic in many a year.

Several cruises, but why list them when no one cares?

Getting back to the "nickeling and diming", this has been going on with most of the cruise lines. We were on Princess last week and the waiters each night tried to sell me the princess cookbook or to sign me up for the wine tasting. I never remember them doing this before. As far as JR goes let them charge. Granted, it might be $20 for a family but come on, how often do you want to eat all that grease. It really isn't that fantastic.

Cruising has become soooo cheap in the past few years, I think that this is a necessity to keep them in business. My first cruise was on Sovereign of the Seas in Aug. of 1991 when it was fairly new. My husband and I paid $2100 for a tiny 145 ft. outside cabin. The only extras was alcohol. Food was not available non stop like it is now. There was no pizza, JR, burger grill, alternative rests. or icecream shops. Breakfast buffet was over by 10 and if you missed it you waited for the buffet to be set up for lunch. Snack time was 3-4 and nothing else until dinner. There was, of course, room service but I don't think it was 24 hrs.

Fast forward 12 years later and my husband and I were on the Voyager last August. We paid $1700 for a much larger outside cabin where food was available non-stop. There were incredible activities that were non-existent in 1991. There are not many things that have come down in price in 12 years.

Moral of the story: Let them charge us or raise prices if they must.

Basically the cruise lines are trying to find any way to charge you an extra buck. The "nickeling and diming" is the way they are trying to sneak charges to you. Cruise prices have dropped, not because of "nickeling and diming", but because they are building too many ships. That is good for the consumer. I refuse to be nickled and dimed to death. The more they get by with it, the more hidden charges you will see in the future. If you don't allow yourself to be nickled and dimed, and you complain enough after the cruise you can help put a stop to these illegitimate fees. There has been causes to where cruise lines have removed some of these fees with enough complaints. A burger eaten at Johnny Rockets means one less burger at the buffet line. What's next? A buffet surcharge?

For those of you that think the surcharge is a great idea so you can waltz in at anytime and grab some food without experiencing a line up

................TERRIFIC...................

why not charge for tendering? perhaps that will weed out the line ups as well. Let's charge for the evening shows also - I bet you'd be gauranteed a great seat then.

Folks, if you don't like crowds DON'T go on a cruise. Paying money to aviod a line up in ludicrous!
