French/Italian Public Holiday trains Nov 1st

Recommended Posts

I've just picked up that it's All Saints Day on the 1st of November when I shall be docking (anchoring) at Villefranche on Norwegian Gem. Can anyone tell me what this would mean for the train system?

I have three teenage sons, two of whom want to look around Monaco, particularly where the F1 track runs, and my wife wants to take a look at the Casino. I know my way around this hilly town well enough so did not wish to use the guided tours provided by NCL. But if the trains are questionable on Public Holidays I may be left with little choice.

All Saint's Day in Europe means banks and many shops will be closed. We will be in Mallorca on 11/1 and I know the bus we must take will follow a Sunday/Festival schedule. I suggest you email the office of tourism in Monaco and they should help provide holiday schedules.....I'm sure All Saint's Day will have no effect on the Casino.........the outdoor market in Nice is also fun to visit if it is open.....Marty

I went to RailEurope to buy tickets from Paris to Normandy, and the sale went through. I'm hopeful they wouldn't sell tickets if the trains weren't going to run. The car rentals in Caen are closed because of the Holiday. My hotel tells me the car rentals at the airport should still be open, but a lot of the stores, museums, etc. will all be closed. There is a big parade down Champs Elysees (sp?) ending at the Arc de Triump, and they expects thousands to attend. But my flight home on Saturday, 1 November was cancelled and I was put on the flight on Sunday, 2 November, so from that I gather it is a BIG Holiday over there, and I don't expect much in the way of sightseeing. I didn't even realize it was a Holiday, until my airline changed my flight and I started looking into what to do that extra day.

I wish you luck, and have a great trip!
