lesharona Posted November 3, 2004 #1 Share Posted November 3, 2004 I am thinking of taking my parents who are elderly on this cruise. I have been checking out the round trip Ft Lauderdale cruise on the Coral Princess. I notice they offer cruises in March April Oct and November. I am leaning toward Oct. What is the weather like that time of year? On this itinerary do you actually experience going through the locks? The reason I picked this one is it is a 10 day cruise. I thought a 14 day or longer may be tiring for them. Has anyone done this particular cruise and do you think it would be a good choice. I have taken them to NewEngland/Canda, Alaska and Hawaii on cruises in the last few years and they enjoyed those very much. thank you for your input. Nitemare Posted November 3, 2004 #2 Share Posted November 3, 2004 The Princess 10 day round trip cruises to the Panama Canal from Fort Lauderdale go through the first set of locks (Gatun), which raises the ship 3 levels, and then the ship goes into Gatun Lake. If you're going on an excursion (and the Ocean to Ocean boat tour and the railroad tour are both highly recommended), you tender off the ship in the lake to a bus, which takes you to your tour. Otherwise, you stay on the ship in the lake for awhile, then turn around and head back through the Gatun locks, and you dock in Colon where the folks who took excursions meet the ship. Weather conditions vary, I suggest you look for a website that has average Panama weather historical information -- you should be able to find a wealth of information from Google.
