Please help with the name of this plant

I am hoping that all you smart people could name this unusal plant

that I found in Bermuda this year. The side view is in the upper right

corner, the flower is three inches wide and about six inches deep. I

also found them hanging from a tree.

Thanks in advance. Kevin

I deal with shrubs and perennials of the north mostly and am by no means an expert on tropicals, but since you say you also saw these hanging in trees, it could be a member of the Brugmansia family (Datura). The stems look a little too 'shrubby' to be a Datura per se, but the bloom does look like a variety of Brugmansia

I could certainly be wrong here............................Anyone else??

Agreed. It looks to be a Trumpet flower or Angel's Trumpet. Part of the Nightshade family and is rather poisonous.

There's one growing a few blocks from us and we were interested until asking the owner about it. We determined that the beautiful tree-like shrub didn't mix with kids.

Cruisetobeaches, Dave,

Thank you for solving my mystery. I knew I could count on the CC

photo gallery experts for a fast and accurate answer.

I was just trying out my first SLR. I found some of the best subjects are flora, fauna and architecture for learning the balance of composition

and lighting.

Aplmac,

I don't remember seeing them in my visits to my other favorite island of Barbados. I'll be sure to look for them in my future visits there.

Thank again guys.

Iheartbda,

I know the park you shot them at, by the outdoor seating of the little

cafe. It was up the street from the ferry terminal on the left side if

the street. I didn't notice a sign or any other marking that gave a

name to the park, but a very well planed and planted public area.

I shot the other one at the St. George's public golf course.

Yes, that's Par-La-Ville park.:)

This was a large tree and the flowers were eye level. I took some other pictures standing under the blooms and looking up.

Where did you find "yours" on the golf course? We've walked the road that goes through it many times on the way to Tobacco Bay. I always look for interesting flora but didn't notice turmpets.:(

While walking toward Tobbaco Bay and past the Unfinished Church there is

a rest bench on the left side of the street. Make a right at that cart

path that will take you to the main entry of the golf course and the

first tee they are on the left side of the street heading back to the port.

Here's a pic from that point. The pic I posted is behind me. I also love Bermuda

I see you've been to Bermuda on the Zenith in Oct. That was our favorite ship and month to go...still go in Oct. Went on RCCL's Empress of the Seas after no more Zenith, NCL's Majesty after no more Empress and now the Majesty will be gone after this year's cruise. Seems like we're a jinx for ships.:p

The wife and I are willing to take almost any ship that does the Bermuda

run from New York. The Ships that we've taken to our island Paradise

and are no longer in their company's fleet are Celebrity's Zenith and

Horizon, RCCL's Empress of the Seas, and NCL's Crown.

The cruise lines are diligently doing away with their smaller and older less

cost effective ships. Sooner or later the only ships left will be the mega

liners and the panamax ships of new. No more seeing the same faces

multiple times during the week, like we did on the Zenith, or the cozy

and comfy lounges of the Empress. All are deeply missed.

Yes, we are also willing to take most any ship that will get us to Bermuda, although our preference is ships like the Zenith, Empress, etc.

HAL's Veendam is going to start going to Bermuda out of NY.:) I would love to try it but DH has gotten spoiled that last few years going out of Phila.
