Which Currency - Panama canal cruise

Hi - we are on the Coral Princess cruise from LA 12/23/08 visiting Mexico, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Nicarague, Colombia and I wondered what currency to take with me. Are US$ widely accepted, do I change on the ship or wait till I get to the country itself - any assistance would be appreciated

All of the towns except US currency. I just make sure that I have small bills handy so I do not get a lot of foreign currency back.

I agree, all places accept US dollars and most will give whole dollars change but some of the stores will give you change in their currency so bring lots of smaller denominations.
