Bahama Kid Posted December 26, 2008 #3 Share Posted December 26, 2008 The cost from the airport to Causeway Bay is about US33-35 (about HK270) but may vary depending on which of the three tunnels you use. There is a HK5 charge for each piece of large luggage. Taxi rates have increased and the meter fare is not correct. There will be a conversion chart posted inside the cab. For example, if the meter reads HK100, the chart may indicate the new charge is KH120. I would advise using Hong Kong dollars. If the driver accepts US dollars, the exchange rate will be terrible. The HK270 will include paying the Kowloon driver the tunnel toll both ways since he must return to Kowloon empty (or he may get lucky and pick up a Kowloon passenger on the Hong Kong side. Always use the meter. Don't agree to a set charge. Hope this helps.
Aussie Gal Posted December 26, 2008 #4 Share Posted December 26, 2008 Fredr, When we used a taxi from the airport to our hotel in Kowloon in both May and September, it came to around 380HK dollars. The official rate which is posted on the airport site is supposed to be only 225HK dollars for Kowloon, but there are all the add ons which include the amount of cases, the tolls etc. Here is official website for the airport: http://www.hongkongairport.com/eng/transport/to-from-airport/taxi.html and it mentions a fare of 280HK dollars for Causeway Bay. I would allow for at least another 100HK dollars. Make sure you have enough Hong Kong dollars on you for the fare as the taxi drivers do not speak good english and prefer their own currency. Carry a piece of paper with the hotel's address printed on it as they often do not know where the hotel is situated. We were staying at the Intercontinental Hotel, right on the harbour in the middle of Kowloon and I had to instruct the driver on how to reach it. Too bad if we had never been to Hong Kong before. There are plenty of ATM's at the airport if you cannot get the currency in your country. The airport is fantastic and is very modern and clean.
