Hi all!

Since cruise critic members are the best for asking advice... here it goes.

I've never been to Nasau as one of my ports of call. If you have been there what is the best thing to do for the limited time frame of 7am to 2 pm in port?

We love to shop, love the beach, etc.....

What is the best thing in Nassau to do/see?

Thanks in advance...............

We didn't want to go with the ship's excursions (we did want to book Hartley's undersea walk, but it was fully booked), so we walked off the ship and found loads of taxis at the exit of the pier. They were old minibus type things, and the drivers (ours was named Perry) were gathering groups together to site see. It was great. He took us for a drive around the town, to the ghetto area, queeens staircase, Atlantis for a quick free walk around (and use their toilets!) and then to the beach. He had already requested that we pay him at the end of the tour. He picked us up from the beach at a time agreed, and took us back to the pier. At a cost of 30 dollars each it was wonderful value for money. There were about 9 of us on the minibus. All the time he gave a commentary about what we were seeing, how Nassau was developing etc., All of the drivers there he says were licenced to do this.

My BF and I have also been wondering how to spend our short time in Nassau so I really appreciate your answer, Lise! That sounds like a great way to see the "highlights" at a bargain price! Do you remember which beach you went to? Did you have time to shop for trinkets and little things?

Thanks for all the info! :)

Can I just say, that somehow I managed to log on as Lise (we both used the same machine whilst working from a different office and it seemed to save Lise's password details! - I could have caused all sorts of havoc!!). Anyway, back to Nassau. The beach was near Atlantis. Because the private island was out of commission, we did have longer in Nassau however, on return by taxi, we had about half an hour shopping. Be warned though, the shops close at 5-5.30.

I'd do a little shopping in the morning.. Shoppes should open around 9am. Walk around town and then ... if weather permits, either head to Cable Beach (Radisson, Wyndham or Nassau Beach Hotel) for calm waters and laying out on the beach (#10 jitney from downtown), or take a cab or ferry to Paradise Island to Cabbage Beach (walk along Casino drive) to the public beach entrance next to the RIU hotel.

If weather is too cool for beaching it... After shopping downtown, head over to Paradsie Island and either check out Atlantis, or along the main drive to the Versaille Gardens and Cloisters, have a drink at Dune (at Ocean Club) or lunch out on the harbour at Green Parrot (Hurricane Hole Marina).. You'll still have time to leisurely make it back to the boat.

If you feel very pressed for time, and still want to hit the beach, you can walk west of town a few blocks to Lighthouse Beach (it's just past the British Colonial Hilton. .. its a public beach, not very upscale, but the water is gorgeous, and the sun is free. And it's just a few blocks from the dock.
