Things of note: make sure you have a good map, you drive on the left hand side of the road, when the locals honk it is not aggressive, it is more a case of coming your way or please let me in. Ah, and yes, road signs are fair to non-existent.

Cheers

Take a compass!

No kidding - it can be Very Helpful; particularly perusing the interior (Harrison Caves etc.)

Barbados has a coastal road ringing it. Outside Bridgetown, nearly all other roads basically run North-South or East-West; you'll eventually hit the coastal road. In the interior, knowing which direction you are driving, and that roads run either N-S or E-W, can be extremely useful. You then know which coast line you're heading to and approximately where you'll come out - you've got your 'bearings'.

In the absence of knowing direction, road signage being largely absent, interior roads can be very disorienting. You can't see the ocean from most of the interior (no signs); its a good size island that lacks topographical landmarks.

The lack of topography - lack of mountains - means the roads are in pretty good shape though. The locals are friendly, but their directions are often not easy to decifer.

Compass is key!
