39339 Posted February 8, 2009 #1 Share Posted February 8, 2009 Leaving in May for a northbound cruisetour. I have several questions which I have researched, but thought I might get clearer answers here. Thanks in advance! 1. Excursion prices though Princess - Is there tax added to these? Or is this the total price? Group of several people & a tourist tax &/or local sales tax would make a big difference. 2. Baja deck - Do balcony doors fold back so that adjoining rooms can mingle with each other on the balcony? 3. Our package flight leaves from Anchorage. Most of their flights depart early, early morning (such as 2AM) or mid-afternoon (4PM). We are provided with an "overnight" stay in Anchorage. For those of you who have done this same package, were your flights the wee hours of the morning flights or did you have that next morning free to enjoy Anchorage? 4. Vancouver grocery? We will be flying in just prior to boarding. Is there a grocery, drug store, etc in easy walking distance from the dock? What can we bring on ship in hand? How many soft drinks? Can we bring beer? How much? 5. Any one ever miss the ship with Princess flight package? Did they ferry you out to the moving ship, fly you to Ketchikan? Please share your tale. 6. Seymour Strait - Is it worth staying awake to view? Can you see anything at night? Understand it will be about 10 at night when we move through the area...but that's much later in reference to the timezone we woke up in to catch an early flight:) 7. Denali & whale watching tours - Tundra Wilderness tour & whale watching booked through Princess. Is a video offered for purchase of your tour? If so, what's the price & quality? 8. Cellular phone use - Ketchikan, Juneau, Skagway, Whitter, Denali, Anchorage area. AT&T, Cellular South - have any service? Nationwide rates charged & not international? So close to the border in the ports - don't want to be hit with a huge bill back home.
mii Posted February 8, 2009 #2 Share Posted February 8, 2009 There are no taxes on the excursions. the price you see is the price you pay. Some balcony doors will be to the adjoining balcony. The room steward can help you with that. I am not sure which ones do open. Seymour strait is really beautiful but you said you would get there around 10p.m. Just remember that it stays light up in that area very late but probably at that time you will not see much. As for the rest of the questions go back to the home page and scroll down to Ports of Call board, then hit alaska. Tons of info about your very questions are on that board and there are a few experts" on alaska that can help you. Marilyn
bubbachief Posted February 8, 2009 #3 Share Posted February 8, 2009 What meals, if any, are included in the tour portion of the Alaska Cruisetour. I know we get lodging, but not sure about any meals.
lsane2 Posted February 8, 2009 #4 Share Posted February 8, 2009 Unless it's an escorted tour, meals are not included.
paul929207 Posted February 8, 2009 #5 Share Posted February 8, 2009 There are no extra charges on Princess tours, like taxes, gvt fees, etc. THere are shops in Canada Place where you can buy things. There are no grocery stores, but just some small shops selling soda, beer, etc.
carmensmom Posted February 8, 2009 #6 Share Posted February 8, 2009 The partitons between the balconys on the Baja deck can be removed, just let your cabin steward know what you need. Also balconys on the Baja deck are covered, so you can still enjoy your balcony even if it is raining. DH and I had cabin B710 this past Sept. The Tundra Wilderness video is 35.00$ it includes stock video of the park, plus the highlights of your tour (animals spotted) the video is thaken by your tour bus driver. We were able to use our cell phone in Alaska while on the tour, and on the cruise while in port without any extra charges (we have verizon) check with your provider to be sure.
