ZAMOST Posted November 22, 2004 #1 Share Posted November 22, 2004 1) Does the casino have a mini-craps table? 2) Does the window of a deck 8 sitting room open? 3) On a Mediterranean cruise, how casual is the dress? Are ties required at all, some, or none of the evenings? Please tell me no suit/tuxedo nights. Almost certainly taking the Diamond on the Athens to Venice cruise of August 27, 2005. English Voyager Posted November 22, 2004 #2 Share Posted November 22, 2004 Unable to comment on the casino,as I am not a gambler. The window of the "sitting room" does NOT open. On our recent Rome/Venice cruise there were formal, informal, and casual nights. On a formal night a tuxedo,or dark suit was requested. Informal nights required a jacket, and tie. The cruise on the Diamond was our first with RSSC,and was excellent.
jdc Posted November 22, 2004 #3 Share Posted November 22, 2004 Zamost: Just did the October 18th Venice to Rome. One formal night and the rest were "country club casual"...meaning no coat or tie. My advice is to sign up for Don Vito on the formal night and you probably can get away "jacket-less" for the entire time. If you haven't been on the Diamond before, Don Vito is a must-do. Seems as I remember it there was a craps table in the Casino, however, there were very little people gambling..so much of the casino was not in operation....guess we were an "early to be early to rise.." group. jeff
new_cruiser Posted November 23, 2004 #4 Share Posted November 23, 2004 jdc, I thought I had read that dress for Don Vito's on formal nights was also formal. We are booked on the Diamond Istanbul-Athens next August but I'm having second thoughts. I'm worried that the weather will be too hot then. The June Istanbul-Athens Diamond cruise only had the most expensive cabins available so that is out. We can get a the Wind Spirit May 28 cruise and that is one of their signature cruises so it is more inclusive than the usual Windstar. The itineraries are pretty close. Better weather outlook versus larger cabins and a bit more luxury - I'm having a hard time deciding. Zamost, there is also the option of having dinner in the cabin if you want to avoid the formal night. The cabin is large enough that that should be comfortable and the comments I've seen on the in-cabin dining are were favorable. For Istanbul-Athens we were told there would be 1 formal night. We're not into dress-up, but we would probably do it anyway as my husband would rather eat in the dining room than the cabin.
ZAMOST Posted November 23, 2004 Author #5 Share Posted November 23, 2004 Thanks for the response so far. NewCruiser, we too were trying to decide between the WindSurf and the Diamond. We will be part of a group of 12 or so, and some concern about the size of the WindSurf cabin and our satisfaction as a group with a trip on the Mariner two years ago to Scandinavia/Russia, helped to push us toward the Athens to Venice cruise on the Diamond. Nothing totally set yet. Am not excited about any nights requiring a jacket or tie, which suggests the women may also have to bring nicer outfits as well. mcpepe Posted November 23, 2004 #6 Share Posted November 23, 2004 Hi! Just got off the diamond yesterday. For Don Vito's the dress is always casual, stated right on every daily report.

ZAMOST Posted November 24, 2004 Author #8 Share Posted November 24, 2004 That pricing seems good, but what deck, and is it sitting room or balcony? The reviews of the Diamond seem consistently great...occasional reference to the age of the ship, but the quality of service seems impeccable. I just love the idea of complimentary wine with meals and no tipping.

ZAMOST Posted November 24, 2004 Author #10 Share Posted November 24, 2004 With the group discount we hope to get for a party of ten or more, the pricing is about the same for a deck 8 sitting room.
