Princess trip to St John on Catamaran

Dear Brownie,

Are you referring to the full day or half day trip? We did the full day catamaran sail with lunch last year with a group of six friends and we all throughly enjoyed it. Great crew, nice beach, yummy lunch etc. A really scenic cruise as well. Would highly recommend, however the sail over was very choppy-not advised if you are prone to seasickness!

dont waste your money on the half day sail. we were crammed like sardines into a safari bus for the horrific 45 minute ride from Crown Pier over to Red Hook. Only had about 45 minutes to swim. Anchored offshore of a deserted beach on St John and since I'm not a swimmer, had to wait to get a dinghy ride to the beach where you are left with no bathroom, drinks, etc til they come back (wasn't a problem since I only had 1/2 hr on the beach. Water was very choppy. The total excursion was 4 hours including the ride out and back in the bus! If you are going to do it, do the full day for the extra few $$$; it really was beautiful; just not enough time to do anything. We did a cat excursion in Antiqua that was totally the opposite of our St Thomas experience; we were anchored offshore for almost 3 hours with drinks and snacks and a guide for hiking, etc. Full meal served with all you can drink and best part was the cat was docked at the same pier. The cost was only a few dollars more than the St John tour.

Has anyone completed this excursion on Princess cruise lines? Was it worth the money of $89 per person? Which beach did you go to?

thanks

Be careful, you might not get to St. John. We did this trip and enroute the captain told us it was too rough to go to St. John, so we would go to another beach.

He anchored about 200 yards off this coral rock beach (no sand). We had expected a sandy beach as described in the trip info. He doesn't care and suggests we go snorkeling. When some people said they didn't swim or snorkel, he just shrugged.

I went snorkeling for about a half hour and saw one fish. Yes, one fish. Water was clear but there was nothing of interest.

Also, the boat was in the dingy side and the "heads" left a lot to be desired.

Save you money and see if you can hook up with a local who does half or full day sails. Some have been mentioned in these posts.
