Need help choosing an Alaskan Cruise

Hello

A friend of mine would like to plan a cruise vacation to Alaska for her parents in June or early July. She'd like them to spend most of their time on the boat so the fewer the ports the better. Her mom has some mobility issues... she does not handle stairs very well, nor long distance walking. They have not traveled very much at all; I know her dad has never been on a plane. She doesn't want them to have to worry about getting from the airport to the boat and vice versa. I'm looking for suggestions of cruises that work better for older, less mobile guests.

Thanks!

Then probably they would be far better off on a costly small cruising company and not the regular megaliners. Look at Lindblad, Cruise West, Safari etc.

All the regualar cruiselines sailing Alaska are big, scenic sailing is so so compared to the above listed and frankly if you don't get off the ship, you are missing a significant part of Alaska touring. Getting only 50% of a trip without tours, in my opinion. You might want to consider a w/c rental, and many tours require little walking. I suggest you do your homework and find out more about this traveling. Will really offer you much more of a trip.

Thanks for the reply. I think they would probably be interested in getting off the ship at a couple of the ports for sure. She was just thinking one with fewer stops would work best. I have been on several cruises but don't know as much about the Alaskan cruises. Any other comments/advice would be helpful.

Thanks!

If they are open to getting off the ship, then I suggest you research Alaska ports and what they offer, then make the selection. The regular cruiselines are 1/4 the price of the superior routing, small ships, which I recommended with your not wanting to get to many ports.
