PRINSENDAM: Moldy?

Hello All,

We are interested in booking the Prinsendam this fall for 24 nts, departing Nov1 from Athens and arriving Nov. 24 in Ft. Lauderdale.

We've sailed on a zillion ships, plus a variety of HAL ships—we'd loved them all, old and new. Actually we are partial to older ships because of the ambiance aboard. However, since choosing the Prinsendam, we've read a few online reviews from disgruntled passengers complaining about mold problems. . .and sick passenger.

Question about the Prinsendam:

Is there a mold issue? Does it really reek of mildew and are people actually getting sick during and afterward?

I'd appreciate any comments, as we're currently holding our cabin and need to make a decision s-o-o-n.

Thanks, Eclectic Lady

we were on the Prinsendam Nov-Dec. We didn't really notice any mold or moldy smells. A pipe did break somewhere near our stateroom. The carpet in our closet and in front of the bathroom, out the entryway and into the hall was soaked. They quickly got the vacuum's and 2 large size fans in the stateroom and another in the hallway and it dried right up. Of course this was about 5 days before we disembarked, so I don't know if not tearing up and replacing the carpet might make the padding moldy. That's really what needs to be done anytime there is a lot of water.

We were on the Prinsendam last July/Aug 2008 21 days and found everything to be great. We were on the Promenade deck and liked the room very much. Don't think it is available will go guarantee this time.

Never heard anyone talk about mold smells, but one never knows on these ships

Like the other one said Go for it.

We recently returned from the 50-day Grand Med & Black Sea. There wasn't a hint of mold -- either by smell or conversation. The Prinsendam is looking a little threadbare, however, but is scheduled for refurbishing in November. Have a great trip!
