Rare Hlitner Posted March 27, 2009 #2 Share Posted March 27, 2009 Well, we have rented many cars in Europe (including in Livorno) and driven thousands of miles in Italy. But, I generally do not recommend renting a car unless you have some experience driving in Europe and Italy. If you do rent a car (all the majors rent at Livorno and there also some good local rental car companies) I recommend you spend the extra few dollars and rent a GPS. Hertz used to deliver right to the pier, but with the security in the port I am not sure of the current situation. Hank
moyaroo Posted March 27, 2009 #3 Share Posted March 27, 2009 Driving in Italy is one of the world's greatest adventures. If you can find the video EUROPE&ITALY- 1999 Direction and Script : Bruno Bozzetto you will get an idea. Do not pass on insurance! With a car you can go to Siena one of the finest (IMHO) of the hill towns (San Gimiano is also available as a close to Florence alternative) Do not however, I repeat, do not, even think of driving into Florence. Even if you manage to find the center of town, you will not find a parking space and if you do . . .
bobthek Posted March 27, 2009 #4 Share Posted March 27, 2009 We have used Papillon Service for a day tour of Tuscany from the port of Livorno in October 2007. We had a wonderful time. There were six of us, which was slightly tight in the car. Here is their website: http://www.papillonservice.com/tours%20b.html Ciao
