Taking teenagers on MSC cruises

My travel agent has presented us with what seems a good deal on MSC Splendida in August on a Med cruise.

Our girls are 16 and 13, quite shy and not good with languages other than English. If we take the cruise I would be keen on them to join the teen club activities and get to know other kids of their age group. This would be their first cruise.

Can anyone give me a review of the kids clubs for this age group and whether there are likely to be enough other kids speaking English ?

thanks:)

We just returned from the Orchestra and if the cruise you're going on is anything like this one I WOULD NOT recommend sending teen girls to the teen club. On our ship the teens met in the disco every evening at 11pm. This is the same disco where the adults go and alcohol is served. My child is 17 and a boy so I wasn't really worried but on a few evenings he saw adult men dancing with very young teen girls. He tried to buy alcohol and couldn't because his cruise card showed his age but I'm sure if he tried hard enough he could have found someone else to buy it for him. There was no supervision at all for the teens. Other than the disco I don't think there were many organized teen activites.

My 16 year old daughter did not meet any teens as she refused to go to the disco at 11pm to meet others. All the teens we saw on the cruise seemed to be traveling in groups. My daughter is very outgoing and still didn't make any friends. On all other cruises she has been actively involved in lots of activities.

That being said, we (including her) still enjoyed the trip very much and for the price we paid were very satisfied. She hung out with us and read at least 3 books.

I agree with above posters. We, including my 14yr. old daughter had a great time but, activities for teens were limited. She always kept busy with us during the day. 11pm seemed to late to just hang out at a disco.

I have to agree with the above ... just got back from the 3/21 Orchestra sailing While we had a great time (family wise and with folks I meet thru CC boards) ... the ships activities for TEENS is not like other liners ... my son 17 hung out on his own or with us ... my daughter meet a girl her age 14 to hang out with for the week. While the price of the cruise is TERRIFIC for kids ... they do not have planned actitives for TEENS to do :( if your daughters are at all shy they will most likely not enjoy the TEEN CLUB.

thanks everyone for your input. I have decided against the MSC cruise and instead I'll try to find a good deal on RCI, MSC or Ocean Village

Just to add my experience - as everybody said, there is no teen activities on board. One of the most dissapointed parts of the cruise. If I ever decide to go on a cruise, my teen son would not let me choose MSC :-(.

If you have to take teens on a cruise go with Carnival or RCI. I would do Carnival not only because they are cheaper but my boys had a great time on our Carnival cruise. They had more things for them to do. We made the mistake of taking them on NCL Majesty for Thanksgiving and 1 hr into the cruise my 15 and 17 yr old told me this was going to be the worse 7 day cruise. They were right not only for them but for all of us. We were all bored!!! We will never cruise with NCL again.

usually teens gathered all together by themselves, and activities at night are competely uncalled for. teens go to disco at 11 and for us is considered early in general. usually adults don't go a lot in discos on the ships because indeed are full of teens and this kind of passengers are considered boring and noisy by adults.

consider also that ther are a lot of teens that look for adult passengers and many times pretend to be 18 or more, they play at casino because they loook like they are older and they buy alchool outside the ship, they hide them in their bags then they drink it on board.
