gullgeorge Posted December 1, 2004 #1 Share Posted December 1, 2004 Day 4 – At Road Town, Tortola This is the fourth of a daily review of the 11/27 sailing of the Zaandam, eastern Caribbean cruise. The daily review will be short covering the major events. Road Town Tours We took the Sea & See tour which left from the dock and provided a 1 ¾ hour tour of the various islands and then around the to the west end. There is a bar on the boat with run punch served at 9:00am. They also have bottle water. After leaving the boat for what was supposed to be a 20 minute stop for a little shopping and restrooms we finally left and hour later after some confusion and lost passengers. The drive back to the ship included some stops at scenic overlooks of the various bays, islands and of the ships. The drive is interesting with steep hills and hairpin curves in a safari bus (an open sided bus). Movie Theater We saw our third movie at the theater (none of them good, but that is a personal evaluation) and the sight lines can be bad depending on who is in from of you. There is not enough slope to the theater but the seats and leg room are great. The availability of popcorn is not consistent. Java Café This is one of our favorite places on the ship. We stop here 3 – 4 times a day. We will miss this when the ship is remodeled and have to pay. Food Update Tonight was the BBQ on deck and the 8:00pm seating had no more than 50% full. The service was great and we were out by 9:00pm. We actually got to talk to the waiters and the rest of the staff. Other Stuff This port stop should be a favorite for men, very little shopping. We docked at 7am and our identical twin sister (Volendam) docked at 7:30am. If I had thought about it, a great picture would have been the two captains talking together on the dock with the ship in the background. Next is St. Thomas, more tomorrow.
