Onshore excursions - have a Plan B !

Have a Plan B ! Adventurous cruisers who don’t like the cattle call of ship on-land excursions beware! You often will be delighted that you took the path less traveled, but those ship’s tours do have a magic safety net. You won’t get left behind!

Cruising one of the islands, on excellent recommendations, we chose a land tour by a small outfit. When our ship docked late, and another cruise ship was also docked, the passengers off the other ship, which we had no knowledge of, went off on the excursion, and the operator left us high and dry.

It was plain economics. There were more from the other ship, and they were on time, and another group was waiting for the next tour, so we got left. If we had known that might have happened, and the operator was remiss in not explaining this possibility, we could have had a plan B. Eventually we did find something, but 5 hours wasted on a short shore visit can ruin one’s whole experience on an island. So be adventuresome, and find your own land tour, but be warned, and have a plan B! LiseM

Good advice. Did they return your money and offer suggestions on what other excursion you might enjoy? From a business point of view it made sense for them to please the others who were on time for their excursion but on the other hand it would have looked pretty good here on these boards if you could have written..... "thought that our day was going to be a bust but so and so excursions really took care of us when things went wrong.
