Anything to do right at the port???

We are sailing on Miracle to Belize next week. My hubby, kids and I are going cave tubing. My Sister in Law is on the cruise with us and is not going tubing. Is there something at the port or near it that she can do? She is intent on just staying on the ship because she will be alone and doesnt want to venture out on her own. I would hate for her to be stuck on the ship all day. Is there something like the port facility that is in Costa Maya??? that she can shop at til we return and can meet back up with her? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

The port area is very nice in Belize. There are quite a few little shops along the water and a little open air type market inside the gates where the busses pick you up. Inside the gates we felt very comfortable. Some of our group opted to not do an excursion as well and they decided to come off the ship and look around and were glad that they did. They even questioned all the warnings we had heard, but opted to stay behind the gates just the same. The few people that we saw leave the gated area on their own were bombarded by people as soon as they approached the gates. The tour guides that showed us Belize City assured us of its safety, but we would not have felt comfortable walking around on our own. Hope this helps.

You might check out www.gidiyaptours.com . They take you on an hour long horsedrawn carriage ride thru' Belize for only $20 per person. It even includes free sodas and beer. They have a picture of the carriage and everything on their website. The carriage is covered so you won't get sunburned or wet if it rains. And there is no minimum amount of people, so she could go alone. This might be a fun little thing to do that will get her off of the ship and have her enjoying herself.:)

Not sure how Fat Tuesday like it is, but there is the Wet Lizard in the dock area, and of course, the world famous pharmacy.

Zydeco, thanks for the link to the tourism village. I love to be able to see where I am going to go, before I get there!! After showing these photos to her I am sure she will venture out, at least to the village. I would love for her to do the horse and buggy thing, but it is doubtful. Thanks to everyone for the suggestions. Cath

You're welcome. There is actually a terminal 4 that doesn't seem to be mentioned on the website - guess it isn't up to date.

She will see a number of people walking around with signs selling tours - at least earlier in the day, perhaps one of those will interest her. But they are friendly and not pushy. They seemed more than willing to answer a question or two for me with no purchase necessary.
