Ba' Datz Posted May 4, 2009 #1 Share Posted May 4, 2009 I am new to cruising and would welcome any help from the more experienced travellers I am thinking about a cruise on the Costa Fortuna and noticed that there are Single Inside Cabins without a supplement. Does anyone have any experience with them? Thank you in advance
kitty9 Posted May 4, 2009 #2 Share Posted May 4, 2009 As for the cabins, no experience, but with Costa, it's at the bottom of my list of cruise lines. Very below average food and service and not a cruise line I would go back on, even for free.

I have no experience with Costa but if you get a free cruise with them, I'll take it anytime :) Sorry to hear you didn't have the best experience though. fireofficer5 Posted May 7, 2009 #6 Share Posted May 7, 2009 Don't listen to the other who have not been on the fortuna. The inside cabins are thesane as 1A's on carnival. Nice rooms. Good cruise line.
kitty9 Posted May 7, 2009 #7 Share Posted May 7, 2009 Don't listen to the other who have not been on the fortuna. The inside cabins are thesane as 1A's on carnival. Nice rooms. Good cruise line. You know, everyone is entitled to their own opinions here, and it's a disservice to tell people not to listen to what everyone has to say. That's what these boards are for, to give opinions on personal experience. Some might love a certain line, while others may find that same line not to their liking. The OP was asking for opinions on Costa, and not everyone is going to have the same love it opinion. What's best is to give your opinion and experience on the line that someone is asking about without dissing what others have said.
yellowbird23 Posted May 8, 2009 #8 Share Posted May 8, 2009 Don't listen to the other who have not been on the fortuna. The inside cabins are thesane as 1A's on carnival. Nice rooms. Good cruise line. I agree with kitty 100%. An opinion is just that, an opinion from a person knowledgeable in answering honestly from their own experience. I loved the itinerary that Costa offered, but as for the ship, it was nothing to write home about and a very uncomfortable situation for me in a couple of ways. We are entitled to an "opinion", which is what the OP asked for. Like anyone, she will need to mince those opinions and decide for herself. fireofficer5 Posted May 8, 2009 #9 Share Posted May 8, 2009 "I have no experience", K9, what I read you saying was, you have never been on a Costa cruise. unless I read wrong.
jpg1747 Posted May 8, 2009 #10 Share Posted May 8, 2009 My very first cruise was on the old Carla Costa. I had a single inside cabin that was absolutely tiny and I paid a lot of money for it (at that time). I have no idea what they're like now. I wouldn't cruise on Costa again, but not because of the cabin size. I just don't care for the overall experience.
Tenngal Posted May 9, 2009 #11 Share Posted May 9, 2009 Badatz, Here is some of I wrote about Costa from another thread: "Costa's clientele are mostly European, and most of those are Italian. If you are uncomfortable with English not being the primary language spoken aboard, and food that is heavy on pasta dishes, then Costa may not be right for you. It might mean that you have a sense of being "a fish out of water." I had a great time! But, I also speak French, a good bit of Italian, and some Spanish. I had no problems of feeling like an outsider. I don't recall if there were a lot of smoky areas. I spent most of my time in our balcony room, dining room, casino, and pool area. The service was good, but no towel animals, like on Carnival. I travelled during school time, so few kids were aboard. I guess I'm saying it depends on how flexible and how easygoing you are, to gauge whether you'd like Costa. If you do not know any language other than English, a Costa cruise will certainly expand your linguistic vocabulary! I'd readily go on Costa again, when they have an itinerary that appeals to me. One thing was for sure, they have GREAT frozen custard! I miss that a lot!:) " I hope this helps...
Ba' Datz Posted May 10, 2009 Author #12 Share Posted May 10, 2009 I thank everyone for the posts so far, but I am really more interested in getting responses as to the size and quality of the INSIDE SINGLE STATEROOM on the Fortuna. As to the ambiance and quality of the Fortuna and Costa as a whole, I see that there is a difference of opinions and of course everyone is entitled to their own I will be travelling as part of a large affinity group so the social, language and other issues should be taken care of. It is the cabin which interests me. I hope this clarifies things.
jimh49 Posted June 11, 2009 #13 Share Posted June 11, 2009 Last winter I did back-to-back cruises on Costa Fortuna. I believe there was a single supplement, but not as high as other cruise lines. Of course I know that some cruisers have Costa at the bottom of their fav cruise line, so I was quite curious, especially after reading a number of negative reviews. Well I was pleasantly surprised with the condition of the ship and service provided by the staff. The entertainment staff were by far the most energetic I've see on any of my 15 cruises. Outstanding bands and lounge music supported by the largest dance floor I've seen on a ship (haven't been on the QM 11 yet). Yes the announcements are in five languages, but they tend to keep them short and infrequent. The cabin was comparable in size and arrangement as the other cruise lines. Enjoy!:D
