Is there a method to upgrade madness?

Recommended Posts

Who do the guarantee cabin fairies reward most?

Past guests?

1st timers?

People who book directly w/Carnival instead of TA's?

Higher cabin levels (ie, OV more likely to get bumped up than balcony)?

I just booked a guarantee for the 1st time (3rd cruise). so, just wondering.... although I can't imagine not having fun regardless.

Not that anyone has yet been able to discern. A few have put forward theories, but none have been substantiated. On the contrary, every time someone suggests a pattern, there are immediately dozens of posts with counter-examples.

Generally those who pay more for a category get upgraded first.

example

Guest A pays $400 for a OV Gty, Guest B pays $450. Odds are that Guest B would get upgraded before guest A.

Even this can be challenged, I have friends that cruise on Interline rates (dirt cheap) and have been upgraded from OV to suites & Balcony to Penthouse. Then again they have well over 20 cruises on Carnival so I think that also helps.

My experience has been those who paid the highest fare in their category and those who book guarantee cabins. I frankly don't believe people who claim to have been upgraded from inside cabins to suites. It may happen but it has to be rare. I booked a balcony guarantee and was upgraded to a suite once. This was the best upgrade I've ever received. Usually it's the same cabin on a higher deck.

Not that I know of. I'm platinum and didn't get a good room at all with my guarantee. There were quite a few cabins booked in our last group.

We have been upgraded in the past......and we tend to look for really good/low rates, so.......who knows.

At any rate.........you'll be on a cruise and not at work. Right? :D
