Preferred reservation vs. reservation for anytime dining

I read somewhere on here, the preferred part relates to you being able to choose between traditional dining or anytime dining (regardless of when you book so you are not waitlisted) rather than it being related to booking a table in the anytime dining room on any given night.

I could be wrong, but I guess that would make more sense?

supposedly it means being able to make an anytime dining reservation any time you like (for example, at 7pm and not just at 6 or 8). You do not move to the front of the line (ahead of others with reservations) once at the dining room, however. We only used this once or twice, as we prefer having no fixed dining time and don't mind waiting a few minutes to share a table.
