What to do in Miami until our flight leaves.

Recommended Posts

We will be on the EOS next week. Can't wait...

The ship gets back into Miami Sunday at 8:30 am. Our flight does not leave until 4 PM. We detest sitting and waiting for hours at an airport. There are a couple of RCL excursions for a tour of the Miami or a trip to the everglades. The trip to the everglades sounds interesting but we worry about how warm it might get. Don't want to offend anyone sitting to close to us on the trip home

Anyone have any suggestions for any "must do's" for a few hours in Miami?

Rent a car and visit Vizcaya, the mansion built by John Deering.

We were off the ship on saturday by around 9:30am or so. We checked our luggage in with AA at the port and then grabbed a cab to Bayside Marketplace. We had lunch at the Hard Rock Cafe and just walked around for a little bit. We could have taken one of the boat tours from Bayside but we just hung out. Around 1pm or so we grabbed a cab to the airport for our 3:30 flight [which ended up being delayed 2 hours - ugh].

If you have a chance to visit the Everglades, take it. It is not really like anywhere else. I live about 15 minutes from a place where you can take airboat rides. I took some friends from San Diego on a ride a couple of weeks ago and they loved it. We saw 4 alligators, all different kinds of birds, fish, etc. It has been in the mid-80s most days here and the humidity isn't that bad, yet. We're really just starting the rainy season. Skip Bayside - it's really like any other port of call -- lots of touristy shopping. If you can't make it to the Everglades, then I agree that Vizcaya and South Beach are also amazing destinations for the mid-morning/early afternoon. Enjoy!!!

In the paperwork from RCCL it says that there is NO PORT CHECK IN for ANY AIRLINE. However, American Airlines was directly beside the port. But ONLY American. As soon as you go thru customs you will see AA BEFORE you leave the terminal to your right.

We had a guide that let you get into the water, I was the only one to do it.When you look into the water it only looks about a foot deep, but when you climb down off the air boat, you sink about 8in into soft mud! It feels horrible, but when you get out your feet are compleatly clean. The guide said it was the same mud that people buy to put on you face! Have a great time!
We did the trip through the ship. They take you through disembarkation, and your luggage stays with the coach. They then take you to the airport, so there is no messing about with luggage

Rent a taxi and go to the Market place (not sure of exact name maybe someone else can help) down near the pier. Places to shop, live music or set in a lounge and drink a few pops.

The last time I flew, I had to be at the airport 2 hours before my flight. You probably will get off the ship at about 9. That gives you 5 hours.
You never said what YOU like to do. Miami is a large city. There are all kinds of museums, zoos, theaters, restaurants, shopping centers, and tourist options for you to consider. You will probably have your luggage in tow, so that may slow you down. BUT, with at least 5 hours to spend, your choices are many. Just allow the time needed to get through the security and arrive in time for your flight.

s stated earlier in the thread, the rent a car option has always worked for me. I have had great service and prices from Alamo. They have pickup at the cruise port and airport. I'm a member of the Quicksilver program and checkout was painless.

If you are the type to get all sweaty out in the sun and humid weather, reconsider not doing the Everglades unless its a windy Florida morning! In May its usually hot and humid. But Viscaya is beautiful, South Beach is definitely your best bet, you'll be able to enjoy a nice lunch there al fresco and just take in the sights. Bayside Marketplace, next to the Port of Miami, is beautiful, great shops and restaurants, nice cruises to view Miami's Millionaire Road and Biscayne Bay cruises. Welcome to our beautiful city! Don't forget to have some Cuban food at Bayside! I LOVE YOU MIAMI!

Thanks everyone! You guys have all been so helpful on this broad. I have learned so much.

Just finished our last minute packing. We have our shoe bag, water bottles, masking tape, all the suggested itmes. DH thinks I've lost my mind taking some of this stuff but I told him the board said do it!

We head to the airport early in the morning to board EOS for a wonderful week of fun and relaxation

We are thinking about Viscaya and South Beach. We will probably catch the Everglades on our next trip. Just don't want to get to hot and muggy before our flight. We've been introduced to gators and air boat rides before. My uncle owns Middleton's Fish Camp outside Vero Beach at Blue Cypress Lake Campgrounds. Beautiful place. I just remember how hot it can get......
