gypsyleo Posted June 14, 2009 #1 Share Posted June 14, 2009 We have an on board credit and plan on using it for tips. We will also need two soda cards and want to purchase them before we leave for convenience. How does that work with the OBC? Can we purchase a head of time and use our OBC for the cards by crediting our credit card? Hope that's clear! We are first time crusiers going to Alaska!! I was told by our TA that you can't use your OBC until you are actually on the boat, so I would wait if you want to use it.
GRBlizz Posted June 14, 2009 #3 Share Posted June 14, 2009 I read in another post that if you buy the soda card while the ship is still in port, they have to charge local sales tax in addition to the tip. If you can, oyu may want to wait until after sailaway (when the casino opens is a good barometer) to buy them. Of course, if you have kids wanting a soda NOW, that may not be practical.... LadyDivot Posted June 15, 2009 #4 Share Posted June 15, 2009 The OBC is a flat amount that is credited to your account. For instance, if your total bill at the end of the cruise is $100 and you have a $25 OBC, then you will owe $75. The credit comes off the top, so to speak. Don't worry about buying the soda package before the trip. I bought my soda card the day we sailed outside the buffet area on deck 10. No one in line! Enjoy!
