Susan-M Posted July 27, 2009 #2 Share Posted July 27, 2009 I like Frommer's Destinations and often refer to it for planning our port days. The index on the left of the page provides links to quite a lot of info, walking tours, maps, etc. For most ports, I take a guide books, but find this site great for initial planning, and have even used it as my guidebook material for some ports. Here's a link for Rome: http://www.frommers.com/destinations/rome/0064010001.html For other places, use the search box at the top of the page. nparmelee Posted July 27, 2009 #3 Share Posted July 27, 2009 Besides searching this site for ideas and some details, I also use tripadvisor.com, frommers, europeforvisitors.com, ricksteves.com and a variety of guide books depending on what looks best for which location and for how much time I have for that location. I'm not likely to buy a $10 guidebook for a city I'll only be in for 1 day unless it has really good information that i really want.

HMSDingy Posted July 28, 2009 Author #5 Share Posted July 28, 2009 Here are 3 sites with Barcelona information www.aviewoncities.com/barcelona/barcelonaattractions.htm www.aboutbarcelona.com www.barcelona-tourist-guide.com Thank you. As we are starting in Barcelona witrh a pre-crusie stay, these sites are very helpful. I had sent a taxi company in Barcelona a request for prices and found them to be quite expensive. They quoted 80 euros from airport to our hotel on Las Ramblas and 60 euros from hotel to cruise port. We were told by others here at CC that a taxi ride from the airport should cost us 25 to 30 euros and even less to the port. Are these prices right? In addition to distance, Barcelona taxis charge according to time of day, number of passengers and number of bags. For example, they charge extra €1 per suitcase, €2.10 for trips to/from the port and €3.10 for trips to/from the airport. See the link below for details. http://www.barcelonayellow.com/content/view/100/ Average costs (2 people + 4 suitcases) are approx Airport to Ramblas 25-30 Euros Airport to Port 30-35 Euros Central hotel to Port 15-25 Euros (depending where hotel is)
HMSDingy Posted July 29, 2009 Author #7 Share Posted July 29, 2009 Thank you. Slightly off topic, what are your comments about The Continental hotel?
