Forward verses midship cabin

Greetings. I am getting ready to book an AB suite on the Jewel in November 2005. I was wondering if there are any differences between the forward cabins and the midship cabins? Also, I was planning to book directly through ncl.com and was wondering if the price drops prior to my final payment, will I be compensated?

Thanks and I hope I am not posting redundant questions. I tried to browse the posts for the last few months first...

I can't speak specifically about NCL, but I can address the cabin issue. If you are prone to any type of motion sickness, I'd recommend midship. You'll feel a lot more of the up and down movement forward than you will midship or aft. I almost always opt for midship cabin because of my wife, but once had a aft corner cabin which was great except for movement in high seas (about 15 feet).

Have you shopped for prices? I dream a lot, and book little... and I've never seen an NCL price that beat most of the leading online agencies... or even came close...

My current booking for my next cruise would be $327 more through NCL than the agency I used (cruisesdotcom seems to be the lowest, and I don't work for them:o )

I don't know about price drops, but understand that this is something you can negotiate with yur travel agent prior to booking, and that most will refund any drops up until the final payment is made... after that it seems to be hit or mis...

Shopping around is always good. But I don't see the NCL Jewel listed as an option on any of the online sites. You CAN book her directly through NCL, though. I'm not sure what's up with that.

I don't think you'll be compensated by NCL if the price drops prior to your sailing. Think of it like a computer: you pay for and get the computer of your dreams and six months later, the price drops. The computer store is not going to give you a rebate because their price dropped. Same with NCL. Heck, we'd all be rich if we could do that. ;)

If the price drops prior to the final payment you can get the reduction. Worse case you can cancel and rebook. No harm no foul. If you try that with some of the online agencies you pay their cancelation fee ($50-$100)

I have booked direct 3 times now but only after seaching the web to make sure the direct rate is competitive. I will pay up to $100 more to control my own booking. It is a lot easier to work with the upsell desk when you control the booking.

Many times you can get a better deal not booking direct. Last Feb. 10 day on the Dawn I saved $400 pp booking with a large cruise brocker. This year I booked direct on a Friday an outside GTD and upgraded myself on Tues to a AF mini. Total cost $1200 less then the best online fare.

I am booked for 06 did that onboard the Sun. The fares have gone up about $150 pp since then and I have a $125 OBC. So at this time I am $425 ahead. I check the fares every couple of weeks. If they drop I will jump on it.

The net NCL will not call you if the fare drops but they will honor it if you contact them prior to final payment. As amatter of fact when I made final for the Sun last summer the agent proactivly checked my fare to make sure it was still the best before accepting my payment.

FYI to answer the original question Mid ship has the least amount of motion if that is a problem. If the Jewel is laid out like the Dawn I perfer a forward cabin. I find myself using the fwd stairway most of the time. Easy access to the places I spend most of my time. From Bimini Bar, to the Stardust Theater, to the Casino, to Impressions or the Bistro.

Check the deckplans and decide for yourself.
