Run of the Ship Category?

Anyone ever book a "run of the ship" category? It know it's different from a guarantee, but was just wondering what type of room you wound up with.

The answer to that question is...Does it make any difference to you which room you are in. Its a gamble.

I've never heard of it.

The way they work are this z guarantee is insides, y=outside, x=balcony, and a new one is w=suite. When you take say a z guarantee, you are guaranteed an inside room on the ship, and yes the prices are usually quite a bit lower than say a cat q with a guar. Same applies for each diff cat of guarantee.

There is no True Run of ship anymore, it is just a run as I had explained earlier.

My TA uses the term "run of the ship" and it means the same as a "guarantee" - usually with this type of booking I don't know my room number until I board.

 

Last cruise, however, I was assigned a room several weeks in advance and it was the cabin most forward on that deck - with a porthole. My TA saw the assignement and had my reservation put back in the loop for another cabin. When we boarded, we were assigned a much nicer mid-ship cabin on a higher deck and with a big window.

The way a 'run of ship' booking was explained to me is that it's different from a 'guarantee' in that a 'guarantee' you are guaranteed a cabin in the price you paid for, i.e., you pay for an inside, and you are guaranteed an inside. With a 'run of the ship' booking, it's possible to be given any cabin, anywhere on the ship that hasn't been booked. 'Run of the ship' prices are supposedly the cheapest you can get, guaranteeing you any cabin on the ship, on any deck. Anyway, that's how it was explained to me.

 

I really don't care which cabin I get, as long as I'm cruising, but was just curious what type of cabin other cruisers wound up with with that type of booking.

Not quite accurate. With a guarantee, you are guaranteed to be assigned AT LEAST a cabin in the category that you paid for. For instance, a I Guarantee will give you at least an I category stateroom.

 

Perhaps the confusion is with GTYs such as Z there is no such category therefore the minimum you can be assigned is the minimum inside available.

 

No difference, really. You always have the possibility of an upgrade with any guarantee and, if you look at RCI's website there is no such thing as ROH.

 

Perhaps your discounter uses this terminology instead of GTY.
