Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. The boarding pass will say "Boarding Zone Priority" On the top right, under your VIFP number, and the barcode they scan, it will say "Category SUITE"
  2. The answer, unfortunately, is maybe. I had no problems using a SonicWall VPN client, but Cisco Anyconnect would not work. Azure VDI (essentially a remote desktop) also worked well for me. Carnival expressly indicates they do not support VPN, and your IT help desk is most likely going to have a hard time with it as well.
  3. Native WiFi calling will not work (As in calling to/from your cell carrier phone number), you will need to use an app such as WhatsApp. From what I understand, it is blocked due to their agreement with Cellular At Sea.
  4. Recently off the Horizon, and purchased premium. While IN MY CABIN (Deck 7 Ocean Suite), reliably had speeds of 300Mbs while in port, and 50-60Mbs while at sea. However, while at sea the latency was extremely high (as can be expected) causing some operations to time out occasionally and requiring several reloads/refreshes. WiFi calling SMS/MMS was not supported. If on Android, ensure you have RCS enabled in messages and texting to other Android users will work as long as they also have RCS enabled. We were pleasantly surprised with the number of streaming services that worked. I tried the following: Netflix (Does not go out over the internet gateway, ship has a local caching server) Prime Video (UI via satellite gateway, some content appeared to be coming from a local cache) Hulu (Did NOT work, hard block) ESPN (Did NOT work, hard block) Disney+ (Did NOT work, region blocked) Pluto (Did NOT work, hard block) AppleTV (Did NOT work, hard block) Paramount+ (Entirely via satellite, Latency was a major issue I was rarely able to overcome) SlingTV (Entirely via satellite as expected. Latency was an issue requiring many attempts to get a stream, but once started worked great) Sirius/XM (Entirely via satellite as expected, worked flawlessly) OUTSIDE the cabin, while out and about, it performed rather poorly, with speeds of about 5Mbs. In some of the most guest populated areas, even the Hub app would not work properly.
  5. I read this email, and the others they sent over the past few months. I personally concluded Carnival is no longer offering us the on board experience they sold us nearly a year ago. While each individual change has been small, and some may say insignificant, the totality of them all together is a MAJOR change. While I understand the contract of carriage gives the passenger zero rights for such changes, the sprit of the terms of sale has been damaged. Like purchasing a nice mid-range car with power windows and leather interior, but on delivery getting hand cranks and fabric. Same capabilities, room, etc. but a depressing interior. I did try to cancel our upcoming sailing, but as is their right, they would not allow without a large forfeiture. I am fortunate enough to be able to afford other lines and AI properties, but have been sticking around due the perks of high status, which is no longer worth it. Carnivals strategy is to target new cruisers, as in those whom do not know what to expect and attempt to raise a loyal customer base on their current service levels. It is my opinion they will no longer survive the massive debt load and alienating loyal customers, and am now planning my CCL exit strategy.
  6. Yes, that is my point. Cruising Carnival today costs about the same though. Fares need to increase.
  7. That's true. But we did have burgers, whole steak sandwiches (not chopped), 100% juice, President butter, and no bacongate to mention a few. The cuts do seem to be getting a bit excessive. However, the price does seem to be about the same as it was "back then". As a multi thousand shareholder, I'm of course rooting for Carnival (and maybe one day the return of those good dividends), but really think they have to start researching and implementing higher fares. I'm on board as a customer until the butter turns into margarine, then I'll bail LOL.
  8. As someone who hasn't sailed CCL in a while, I thought this whole bacon thing was a joke until I did more research. This is pretty bad, and I remember when they went from real juice to "juice like beverage" in the vitality machines.
  9. Haven't sailed CCL in a while, but now have a few coming up in the next couple of years. The gist that I'm getting from this thread is that the theater shows are no longer one for each assigned dining time (2 per night) and are now just a single show. My wife and I dine alone at a table for two, late dining. I'll have to adjust our nearly foolproof strategy for getting in and out in about 45 minutes.
