Karaoke List of Songs

HideoutII

Recommended Posts

Does anyone have a list of the songs that they have on the Karaoke machines? My DH has been bugging me to sing at Karaoke. Now, I have never done this, but, I am thinking that I will train to do this and surprise him on our upcoming cruise. He always likes when I volunteer at the shows, etc. I know that it will really shock him if I sing.

Because I will need a lot of practice, I would like to know what songs are on the lists? What songs are the easy ones to sing? And, what songs are the popular ones?

Can anyone help? Thank you.

Hi,

I can't help specifically, but I would imagine that the cruise ship karaoke is just like regular karoke (which I have done plenty of).

The selection is probably huge...I would suggest you just pick a fun, popular, classic song, and I bet its on there!

Don't stress it.. just have fun with it:)

Song lists vary by ship, just as they do on land. On the Dream in December '06, the list was quite limited for my tastes and I found myself wishing I'd brought some cdg's with me. On the Star I made sure to pack some of my favourite songs, and I found I didn't really need them (although I rarely find my favourite song anywhere so I was glad I had it along).

Basically, the way you 'practice' for karaoke is by singing along to your favourite songs. You are most likely to find music that has been on the charts over the last few decades, especially it it's been fairly popular. The newer stuff is hard to keep up with even for land venues sometimes, so on a cruise ship it's even more difficult. Chances are you won't find anything still on the radio, other than some classics of course.

Perhaps something you might try is going to a local karaoke venue with a friend and giving it a shot. You'll get an idea of what to expect from song lists (they're never the same, but they tend to have a lot of similarities), and you'll have the opportunity to get a feel for performing before you surprise your husband.

Have fun!! :)

I've never gone to karaoke on the ships before but I imagine they have songs like:

“How much is that embarkation photo in the window?”

“I left my heart at the Manhattan cruise terminal”

“If I save a pool chair, will you still love me tomorrow?”

“I lost 5K in the casino but I gained 15 pounds in the buffet”

“Baby got back (but I got a winning Bingo card!)”

“Livin’ la Vida Le Bistro”

“Hey room steward! We need ice, ice baby”

“Getting Jiggy wit it on the Promenade Deck”

“Achy Breaky room safe”

And finally:

“I’m too sexy for my flip-flops!”

I thought of some more NCL Karaoke songs! (And I want to help Hideout II bump her post so she can get a real answer!)

Duran Duran – “Hungry like the Wolf – Where’s the Buffet?”

Dr. Dre – “Ain’t Nuthin but a NCL 2.0 Thang”

The Beach Boys – “Good Vibrations in my Aft Cabin”

Otis Redding – “Sailing from the Dock of the Bay”

Righteous Brothers – “You’ve lost that Cruisin’ Feeling!”

Simon and Garfunkel – “Seasick over Troubled Water”

James Brown – “Papa’s got a Brand New Beer Helmet”

Marvin Gaye – “I heard it through the Freestyle Daily”

CCR – “We’re in port so Who’ll stop the Rain?”

George Jones – “He Stopped Loving Her Today because she lost 15K in the casino!”

Alice Cooper – “School’s Out and the Ship’s full of Children!”

The Supremes – “I called NCL Customer Service and You Keep me Hanging On”

Cream – “In the Naughty Room with Black Curtains at the Station”

Great songs Sea Hound! I'll have to pass those on.

Good luck on the Karaoke HideoutII. You are much braver then I. But I do enjoy going and watching.

As everyone said before just go for a couple of popular classic tunes and at least one will probably be available. But if you have a particular song in mind, you may wish to get a copy of it to bring with you.

Liked your selection Sea Hound.:D Luckily we have plenty of time to practice our songs!;) Here's a few I came up with.

The Who – “I’m Freestyle”

Young Rascals – “I’m gonna wait for the midnight buffet”

Baha Men – “Who let the Rats out, woof, woof”

Joe Cocker – “I get drunk with a little help from my friends”

Hendrix – “Economic depression”

Three Dog Night – Moma told me not to cruise”

Elvis Presley – “You ain’t nothing but a (Sea) Hound Dog”

I will need your good luck wishes if I decide to do this. I guess I will just have to sneak a look at the Karaoke lists on my next cruise and then prepare to sing on the one after that. I am too chicken to just prepare and hope that they have my song. As far as bringing my own, can that be inserted in the ship's machine?

I wonder if all of the ships have the same list of songs. Does anyone know? Maybe when one of you are on board in the next few months, you could sneak a look for me and let me know which are the favorites. I think I remember Sweet Caroline, might have been one.

Thanx.

Hideout II, happy to help with a serious answer. As a regular karaoke performer I sang (!?) on the Pearl in March and Jade in June. Lists of songs were very long and detailed with pretty much every song you could think of listed. Main gripe was that lists were all in song order and not artist order so would suggest that you know what you want to sing before you go. Also, early in the cruise there are very few singers but by the end gets very popular so get in early. Hope that helps.

I was on the Dawn and Majesty...and they actually have 2 different layouts for the songs. Some books have the songs listed by Artist (favorable), and the other has the songs listed by the Song name....

Lots and Lots to choose from. I would have to say that the only songs that may be difficult to find are the ones that are from a movie soundtrack.

You'll be fine.

it's so sweet that you want to sing to your sweety. just go for it. i remember lots of frank sinatra and bon jovi (what a weird combo). i also remember that those who were super serious about singing didn't have as good a time as those who just "did it". the audience enjoyed them more as well. our favorite singer was a guy who kept getting the words wrong and didn't always sing in tune but was just doing the best he could (he was a great ad libber) and having a great time. if you can do that you'll be fine and your sweety will be proud of you! good luck and good cruisin'

As I said in my first reply, song lists vary by ship. That means no, they are NOT the same on each ship. Getting a look at the songs on one cruise might give you an idea of what to expect, but it will absolutely not be the same as the next ship you're on. As I suggested, though, if you want to look at a karaoke list to get an idea, just go to someplace local to you that offers karaoke and have a look at theirs. There is never a guarantee that a song you want to sing will be on any list.

As for bringing your own, any cdg should work in any karaoke machine. I have carried cdgs to lots of places and have always been able to use them. Check eBay for some really good deals on cdgs. Many of them come with a karaoke track and a track with vocals, so if you don't have a machine at home (I'm guessing you don't), you can practice along with the vocals version. Not every karaoke track is the same as what you're used to singing along to the radio. If you're really concerned about practicing a song, that's probably my best recommendation. Keep in mind, though, it's all about having fun, so if you aren't perfect, that's okay. I guarantee your husband will still love it! :)

  • 1 month later...

I'm hoping the Star will be different than the Pride of Hawaii was (now the Jade). I was on POH May 07 and the song selection was aweful. Popular names of singers didn't have a song to choose from. Or Cher there was reallly old stuff like Gypsies Tramps &Thieves but didn't have things like Believe or Turn Back Time. It was aweful.

I had brought my favorite CDG's with me (maybe a dozen) and they couldn't play them on their system (or so they said). Then the book was sorted by song title so I had a really hard time trying to think of songs I can sing. So I'd get a list of songs I could sing & turn them in and they threw them out so the next night I would go in there, it was back to the book to search again.

My Carnival cruise was much different and karaoke was a total blast. But I won't be sailing on CCL again for other reasons. NCL could learn a lesson from them on karaoke though. Maybe it will be different for me on my Star cruise. I haven't booked it yet but I'm checking on it.

I brought my favourite cdgs on the Star with me (and my daughter's, which made all the other kids in the Kid's Crew happy when they got to sing along to Hannah Montana and High School Musical 1 and 2!), and they were able to play them no problem. I found I didn't really need them, though, as their song list was quite good (at least for me). I'm still planning on taking my faves along with me on the Pearl; they're small and light and I can afford the space, and I'd rather know for sure I'll have something I really love to sing than take it for granted that I'll like the list, extensive or not. :)

So, the bottom line is that the Star has a pretty good list to start with, and they can definitely play cdgs - at least the cd-sized ones. I don't know if their equipment can handle the larger, album sized ones. If yours are the smaller ones, though, definitely take them along. At best you'll find plenty to sing on their list, and at worst you'll have your own along.

Just on a side note, the song I think I enjoyed singing the most was 'Hanky Panky' by Madonna... it was the first night and there were maybe a dozen other tables in the Spinnaker. I'd seen a girl sing it in a place here a few times and it's really a funny song - definitely for adults only! When the title came up, everyone kind of said, 'Ooooh, Hanky Panky...' and I warned them that it wasn't the 'Hanky Panky' they were expecting... ha ha ha ha ha Then as I sang the lyrics like 'Treat me like I'm a bad girl even when I'm being good to you' and 'You better like hanky panky; nothing like a good spanky', I looked around the room and they were all just staring at me like this -> . hee hee :p
