cjm66 Posted June 17, 2011 #1 Share Posted June 17, 2011 We are considering a cruise from Sydney to Freemantle in 2012. Two options both with Princess - one in April and one in July. Any advice? Or alternatives - we do need to embark in Sydney and are happy to fly back. Thanks
wildweston Posted June 17, 2011 #2 Share Posted June 17, 2011 Hi, just my personnel opionion but I would go in July just in case there are any cyclones around in April,
Debsta Posted June 17, 2011 #3 Share Posted June 17, 2011 I agree with Cheryl. Monsoons can hang on into April

Rare Kinkacruiser Posted June 21, 2011 #5 Share Posted June 21, 2011 If you choose July, take some warm gear as it will be chilly for about 3 days either end of the cruise. Swimming or snokelling on the reef may not be possible if you're into that. I'd opt for April to save you taking warm clothing. The cyclone season officially ends March 31. I'd like to do this cruise as well and would definitely choose April.
Rare MMDown Under Posted June 21, 2011 #6 Share Posted June 21, 2011 Definitely July. I should have explained my reasons for suggesting July. It rains more in April - often torrential rain. We cancelled a planned camping trip, in a tent, up north, after I researched the amount of annual rainfall in April. Friends in a 4WD had to turn back from an around Australia trip, starting in the north, in April, because of heavy rain and flooding. However, weather patterns can change, so just google the weather. bobhsv Posted June 22, 2011 #7 Share Posted June 22, 2011 The top end is particularly beautiful and pleasant in July, especially around the Darwin area. Jen
Flipper133 Posted June 22, 2011 #8 Share Posted June 22, 2011 We did this cruise in April 2009 - Sydney - Freo Absolutely perfect weather all trip Roughest conditions were a slight swell going out of Sydney Heads! Every where else was perfectly calm. As part of my pre trip planning I read a report from a couple who did the Fre- Sydney cruise in April 2008 and they experienced similar fantastic weather. Cannot comment about July, but I have to recommend April just from my experience cheers
