Thanks so much!

This information is amazing!!

We're going on our first cruise ever on the Getaway on 4th April.

So seeing all this is amazing!

My only concern is the lack of veggie options on the menu's.

But I'll just have to have more wine instead!;-)

Thank again. Xx

Many thanks for your comment.

Kind regards

This is an absolutely amazing review! I'm loving all the details of the restaurants and decks. Thanks for taking all the time to do this. Can't wait until I can sail on the Getaway next year!

Many thanks for your enthusiastic feedback.

Kind regards

I can second megacruisers suggestion, I showed off my cabin on the Epic to 2 sisters on one of my excursions. So disappointed about the lighting on the getaway. Enjoyed it on the Epic. Thanks again for this fabulous review. I check everyday for an update. Debbie

Good to know you are sticking with this Debbie. The finishing line is in sight! I have just about caught up on feedback and questions. Tomorrow is my day off, so Day 7 will be posted then.

Cheers!

Hi and thanks so much.

As far as I know the ships are very similar. Other then décor, I think the Dinner Show, Cirque Dreams on Breakaway, instead of the Illusionarium, is the main difference. I am sure there are NCL experts on here who can advise if there is anything more of note...

Kind regards

Thank you for getting back to me and for the info! Very glad to hear that the ships are very similar, since I fell in love with the Getaway from your review/pictures. I didn't know that the dinner shows were different - if we end up going, we are hoping to go the first night with our free UDPs! :)

Thank you for this amazing review. This has been extremely helpful for me. I just booked the Getaway for April 2016. We have only ever been on DCL, but my children will be older by then and I thought it was time to try out a new cruise line. Your review is definitely making me feel better about my choice. I think they will be happy with all of the available options for things to do and places to eat. Plus, it looks beautiful too.

Thanks to new2crus and tunaman2011, for letting me know that I missed the Day 6 Dinner Menu.

I've just found your review and I've loved it [emoji2][emoji106] thank you for spending the time to do this. We board 2 weeks tomorrow and can't wait! Great photographs.

I would love a vibe pass but not sure if needed. Do you know if H2O was crowded during the day? It is just 2 of us and I love to read in the sun while sunbathing.

Following!

and thank you so much! my partner and I decided about three weeks ago to cruise April 11 on the Getaway - spur of the moment and first NCL cruise. Your posts have made it all even more exciting - great food porn and I'm not even a foodie!

We are "keeping it simple" cruise style. This is only our third trip ever - both of the others were on RC Liberty and Freedom. Can you suggest any out of the way places for those of us on the regular package - Spice H20 looks like it might have some quieter spots. We love just hanging out on a deck chair looking at the water - shade is fine with us. Any suggestions welcome if you have a minute, but regardless this is a wonderful, thorough and damn well written review. Many thanks!

Kristen

I also enjoyed your review, my husband and I are sailing for the 2nd time this year on NCL, we usually sail on RCCL but love the aft penthouse suite on this ship. All I'm saying is after 76,000 views I think NCL should be happily treating you to a free cruise. I'm not sure what you do for a living but have you ever thought of doing this? Thanks again for such great reading. I am going to send them an email about your review and tell them you deserve something for it.

For my final dinner onboard, it was a return visit to Ocean Blue to give it a second-chance to impress, in the way that I felt it ought to. My booking was for 8.45pm but when I arrived I could not be seated; this venue had never seemed that busy earlier in the cruise. This highlights that some specialty restaurants book up on the last night, as time runs out... By way of an apology I was offered a complimentary cocktail at the bar whilst waiting. As I wasn’t on the UBP on this cruise, a free Moscow Mule was most welcome; and sure to quell at-a-stroke any likelihood of escalating annoyance.

At around 9pm I was taken to the same table as my first visit, being located furthermost from the Atrium-well and the attendant-noise being projected upwards from the raucous Casino, one-deck below. This issue is obviously of greater concern to me than most; but I really don’t believe you can create the right ambience for a fine-dining venue with intrusive extraneous noise.

This "mule" had a kick for sure; and a bit more refined than the usual ginger beer variety...

I started with the Curry Bisque with Gingerbread. This was a very well-executed soup; intense but no raw or harsh curry notes; refined and unusual with the integral gingerbread adding both structure and complementary flavour and texture – recommended...

The Black Sea Bass was enjoyable but not amazing. The fish itself was certainly better than the Red Snapper on my first visit. However the dish as a whole I found to be rather bland. Squash and tomatoes are a little wishy-washy to provide a backbone to elevate the fish to its full potential. The potatoes and cold beans could not rescue it either and I came away feeling short-changed. The Chilean Sea Bass in Cagney’s surpassed this and that really ought not to be the case, considering Ocean Blue’s raison d'être...
