Getting a post cruise cab from the NY terminal

Can anyone tell me how difficult or how long of a wait for a cab after debarking a ship from NY? Where do I go to get a cab? Anyone have any tips or tricks? Thanks in advance!

There is a cab line as you exit from the terminal. When we took a cab, there was a long wait and there was someone giving out numbered tickets. It took an hour to actually get into a cab. The cabs were coming very sporadically until a few minutes after 9am and they came more frequently.

I had since read that the best way to get a cab is to cross the street and hail a cab from the street.

Hi,

the last time we sailed the Breakaway from the Manhattan port we did not follow the crowd across the street to wait for a cab. We got our luggage and then headed back up to the second floor where you check in. Lots of people getting dropped off by cabs so we grabbed a cabbie as he was helping people out of the cab and asked if he was accepting fares. Of course he was, he did not want to wait in a long line either to get a fare....we had our cab in about 15 minutes or less.

It is crowded and a bit confusing with people getting out of personal cars, taxis and busses but not really too bad. Actually, my husband stayed back with the luggage and I hunted down a cabbie.

Worked out great.

Weekday or Weekend?

Weekday morning wait will be long, weekend not so much.

Best bet is to go to 2nd floor and get a cab that just dropped their fare off.
